American Energy Funding Policies: Need for Greater Support of Geothermal and Other Renewable Energy

Federal incentives for renewable energy continue to be reduced and phased out. However, fossil fuel subsidies have no phaseouts or sunset dates, while nuclear energy subsidies have long-term sunsets. In addition, the Administration’s current proposed budget for federal funding of energy technologies makes drastic reductions in renewable energy compared to fossil and nuclear energy technologies. The federal government should provide a more balanced policy that treats renewable energy comparably to fossil and nuclear energy.
