Michael Schweig

Victoria University of Wellington

Michael completed his Master of Engineering degree at Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Applied Sciences Ansbach, Germany under the supervision of Professor Jim Johnston, Dr Thomas Borrmann and Professor Edgar Schicker. In 2018 he commenced his PhD degree research programme in mechanical/chemical engineering at Victoria University of Wellington, also under the supervision of Jim and Thomas. His research and development work for these two postgraduate degrees centred around designing and developing the process chemical and mechanical engineering as well as the implementation of the CaSil technology at pilot plant scale. This involved the design, construction, commissioning and operation of a fully automated pilot plant to produce CaSil continuously from New Zealand geothermal water. He has a leading role in the interfacing of the technology with a geothermal electricity generation operation and the commercialisation of the technology. He has presented aspects of the engineering development of the CaSil technology at international geothermal conferences.
