Geothermal Rising Photo Contest Winners Announced at Virtual Annual Meeting

The Geothermal Rising Photo Contest highlights the people, innovations, and beauty of the geothermal industry. For this year's contest, participants were asked to submit photos in the three following categories to help raise awareness of the benefits of geothermal energy:

  • Jobs: Providing long-term, wage-earning jobs
  • Low Impact: Providing low geographic impact, water use & emissions
  • Innovation: Showcasing research & development of new technologies

Entries

Photographs on any subject related to geothermal energy including geothermal energy production, EGS, direct use and geothermal heat pumps can be submitted. This includes photos in the areas of exploration, drilling, well testing, research and development, power plant construction, operation, and maintenance, geological features or geothermal manifestations. This year we ask for photos that answer the question "What is geothermal to you?"

Geothermal provides our communities long-term jobs and economic benefits while supplying low-cost, low-impact energy with innovative technologies. For the 2020 photo contest, GRC is soliciting submissions in 3 categories that help raise awareness of the benefits of geothermal energy:

  • Jobs: Providing long-term, wage earning jobs
  • Low Impact: Providing low geographic impact, water use & emissions
  • Innovation: Showcasing research & development of new technologies

Color or black & white photos are acceptable. Photos must be submitted in a digital jpeg (jpg), tiff or GIF (short animated movies of no more than a few seconds) format. Photos taken with digital or film cameras are acceptable: photos taken with a film camera should be converted to digital format. Please make sure the total file sizes are under 10MB. The winners will be displayed in PowerPoint presentations, on the cover and in the pages of future GRC publications and on the GRC website. All entries will be displayed throughout the GRC Virtual Annual Meeting & Expo.


Judging Criteria

Photographs will be judged on their industry portrayal, impact, marketing relevance, composition, technical quality and relevance in each of the three categories.


Submissions and Deadline

Use the GRC Photography Contest Entry Form, to submit your photograph(s). Up to three entries may be submitted. Each submission MUST be accompanied by a completed entry form and include a title, description, location, date picture was taken, and a signature authorizing the release of the photo for inclusion in the GRC Photographic Library. It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that any person included in the photos has expressly given their permission to use the image. It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that images of private property or confidential information have consent of the owner for use of the photo. The photographer’s name, company, address, email and telephone number must also be provided.


Entries must be RECEIVED no later than August 28, 2020, to qualify for this year’s contest.


Awards

Awards will be presented to winners at the GRC Annual Meeting. Winners of each category will receive $100. The award checks will be drawn from a U.S. bank.
