Craig Turchi

Craig is a Principal Engineer at NREL and the acting manager for the Thermal Energy Science & Technologies Group. He has been at NREL for 18 years, during which time he has led solar thermal and geothermal projects ranging from heat-transfer-fluid development, system costing, hybrid plant design and modeling, direct-thermal-use applications, wet-vs-dry cooling analysis, thermal desalination with renewable energy sources, and advanced power systems. Craig currently leads an $8 million project under the U.S. DOE’s Gen3 Concentrating Solar Power program that is investigating liquid-based, high-temperature heat transfer and storage systems for CSP. Last year Dr. Turchi completed a project exploring the use of geothermal heat to drive absorption chillers at a chemical plant in East Texas. Dr. Turchi has over 50 journal publications and is an inventor on ten patents.
