Thomas “Tom” Lowry is a principle member of the Geothermal Research Department at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). He’s a numerical modeler focusing on sub-surface flow and transport and has over 25 years of addressing a wide range of environmental and energy problems. Since 2009, he’s been involved in the techno-economic modeling and evaluation of geothermal systems helping developers and decision makers make better decisions under the suite of uncertainties that are unique to geothermal energy development. Tom has a BA in mathematics from the University of Colorado, a MS from Portland State University in Civil Engineering, and a PhD from Portland State University in Environmental Engineering. He completed a post-doc at Lincoln University in New Zealand examining the role of heterogeneity on subsurface transport and how to manage groundwater resources under the inclusion of uncertainty. He’s been working at SNL since 2003 and lives in Tijeras, New Mexico with his wife of 31 years and their two dogs.
